🔗 Share this article Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix. The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Norris, who grabbed the championship lead from his teammate by one point after winning in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs. Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout due at the evening session. Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, sitting 36 points Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a different programme. His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he rotated at corner four early in the session. The Japanese lost control over the exit kerbs before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the wall. The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the session, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn leading to the final corner on to the main straight. The seven-time champion wrapped up in P19, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver. Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, 0.619 seconds slower than the Australian's time. Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
