Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev won his initial title for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a former number one, has endured a difficult season, winning just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden title following the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt after spring of 2023.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six finals, comprising in that event in the past months.

The player's counter-punching play style and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had led some to question if his ability to perform at the top level was finished.

But the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and perform assertively, backed up by an improved serve.

The champion came back from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, taking four of the final five games to go ahead.

The pair exchanged break points in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his first professional championship, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

He saved 4 early-game break points in a competitive deciding set before the champion broke to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner earned victory with a point at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
